Springtime Asks Tag

I found this Asks post on Tumblr and thought it would be fun as a tag. Juliette Deroulede, Miss Winifred Banks, Skye Hoffert, Livia and McKayla, considered yourselves tagged, so I don't have to tell you all individually. You can use my header and please give credit to the original Tumblr creator!

The Give Thanks for Books Tag 2021

Olivia and Eva both tagged me for this seasonal tag back in November, but as I was in a rather dark place at the time I never really got around to doing it. Now that I'm in a semi better state of mind, I finally got all of my books in order for the tag!

The Fantastic and Felicitous Fictional Character Blog Tag

Sometimes when I get bored I go through the post archives or follow the labels of other bloggers, looking for inspiration or just fun reading material. I was on Olivia's blog (following the Lord of the Rings label) and I came across this tag that she had tagged me for back in June of 2019. I had no idea!

Thank you Olivia!

Rules:

Answer every question honestly.

Use as many gifs and images as possible.

Incorporate at least one YouTube video with a favorite scene of a character.

NO VAGUE ANSWERS ALLOWED. Explain why you chose that favorite character to fit that description. I love details, my friends.

If you can’t choose just one, that’s okay – give us a few answers and geek out if that’s what it takes.

Tag at least 3 people.

Use fictional characters from any fictional story.

If you get nominated and/or decide to participate in this tag, please put a link back to this post in your post and credit yours truly (Emily at The Altogether Unexpected) as the creator.

Have fun and obsess over fictional characters!

Would You Rather Fictional Grab-Bag Edition

Cordy over at Any Merry Little Thought has brought back one of her tags
and this just seemed to cute to pass up.

Would you rather, be a tenant of Mr. Darcy or Mr. Knightley?

- Ohhh...Uhhhmmm....Knightley, I think. I love Pemberly so much though and I would love to have Georgiana as a sister-in-law, but Mr. Knightley didn't have as much emotional baggage either. Ok, Mr.Knightley!

Would you rather spend a day in the 100 Acre Wood or Neverland?

- 100 Acre Wood, definitely. I love Peter Pan, but I've been terrified of Captain Hook since I saw Dustin Hoffman's portrayal in Hook (1992). I mean that man traumatized me as a child and I still have nightmares! The 100 Acre Wood is a little safer. I want to live next door to Piglet.

Would you rather attend a tea party with the Mad Hatter and company or meet the Wizard of Oz?

- Meet the Wizard of Oz.

Would you rather spend a summer at Netherfield with Jane and Mr. Bingley, or at Hamley Hall with Squire Hamley?

- I'm only associated with Pride and Prejudice, (my Jane Austin knowledge is very limited) so I'll have to say Netherfield with Jane and Mr. Bingley. They're so cute!

Would you rather be "rescued" by Gilbert Blythe or Colonel Brandon?

- (This is as bad as the first question)...Gilbert was such a sweetheart, but Brandon also had money...I'll have to say Gilbert Blythe on this one.

Would you rather marry Laurie or John Brooke?

- John Brooke. I always found Laurie annoying.

Would you rather have to participate in a skirmish as a member of Robin Hood's Merry Men, or as a member of the Musketeers?

- I've wanted to be a member of the Musketeers ever since I saw the 1993 film, The Three Musketeers when I was 8 or 9.

Would you rather have a jolly holiday in a chalk painting or enjoy a tea party on the ceiling with Uncle Albert?

- Holiday in the chalk painting.

Would you rather have to chaperone, through their entire courting experience, Lydia Bennet or Anne De Bourgh?

- Lydia didn't really have a courtship, but I don't think Anne De Bourgh would be that bad.

Would you rather marry Mr. Wickham or Mr. Elton?

- I have no idea who Mr. Elton is, so Mr. Wickham.

Would you rather spend the rest of your life in Middle Earth (starting from the time of the journey of the ring), or Narnia (starting from the time of the Pevensie's first visit)?

- Narnia! Always Narnia!

Emily's Questions

What was a book that you read as a child that you still have fond thoughts of?

- Caddie Woodlawn definitely. I loved that book as a child and even more so as an adult.

Star Wars or Star Trek?

- That's not fair! Probably Star Trek, though. Star Wars started with one storyline and all subsequent stories have had to stay within that storyline. Star Trek is so much more open for every story. You're not following a family, but rather watching the creation of families due to their circumstances.

Have you ever finished a full-length novel, or are you planning to do so soon?

- As in actually reading one, then yes. Quite a few actually.

What is your favorite genre to write?

- History. I love the researching, the discovery of different people during historical events and patterning my own OCs after them.

How old were you when you started blogging/writing?

- 16

Three Things About Me

1.) I love anything about the Mafia. Crazy I know, but the Mafia is absolutely fascinating. When AMC ran their mini-series, The Making of The Mob: New York, I didn't miss an episode!

2.) My Dad's family came from Switzerland and we can trace our roots all the way back to the 13th century.

3.) My favorite piece of music is The Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven and my favorite artwork is The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh.

I Nominate...

My 5 Questions

1.) What is it that you hope to achieve in your lifetime?

2.) Who is your favorite person from history?

3.) Do you prefer the country or the city?

4.) What genre would you describe your life at the moment as (comedy, drama, sci-fi)?

5.) What do you remember the most about 2010?

It's So Classic Tag

Olivia at Meanwhile In Rivendell tagged me for this classics blog tag. Thanks Olivia!

My knowledge and history with classic literature is somewhat lacking, though. I've tried to get into reading classics and more often than not, I just give up. That doesn't necessarily mean I don't have favorites!

Rules:

1. Link your post to Rebellious Writing (www.rebelliouswriting.com)
2. Answer the questions
3. Tag at least 5 bloggers.

The Questions:

1. What is one classic that hasn’t been made into a movie yet, but really needs to?

-Ishmael by E.D.E.N. Southworth. While it may not be immensely popular, it is a great story that I would definitely consider a classic. Caddie Woodlawn would be another one. There was a made for tv movie that came out in the late 80s and it was good, but I don't think that had ever been a feature length film made.

2. What draws you to classics?

     - The history usually. It's hard to pinpoint what makes a classic a classic. Whether it's the popularity or the general message of the story, but most classics deal with history.

3. What is an underrated classic?

     - I would probably have to say Ishmael again, but also the narrative of Mary Rowlandson's kidnap and survival in The Sovereignty and Goodness of God: Being a Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson. This is an excellent, but very heartbreaking story.

4. What is one classic that you didn’t expect to love, but ended up loving anyway?

     - The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hester Pryne was such a heroine in her own right.

5. What are your most favorite and least favorite classics?

     - Caddie Woodlawn would be my all time favorite! I think I've read the book...three times. I also love The Wizard of Oz series as well. My least favorite is Frankenstein. I listened to it on audiobook and while it had its good moments, it just dragged.

6. What is your favorite character from a classic? Or if that is too hard, what is your favorite classic character trope (e.g. strong and silent, quiet sidekick, etc.)?

     - Athos from The Three Musketeers. He was my favorite when I watched the Disney film and was certainly my favorite when I read the book years later. He was flawed inside and out, but he was dutiful to his king and loyal to his friends.

7. What’s a popular classic that you felt wasn’t actually that great?

     - Probably Frankenstein again. The story had a lot of potential but the constant description of everything got very, very wearing.

8. Who is your favorite classic author?

     - C.S. Lewis. I haven't read a great deal of classics from the same authors to really garner an opinion of a favorite. Meaning I haven't read a lot of Jane Austen or F. Scott Fitzgerald to consider them favorites.

9. In your opinion, what makes a classic a classic?

     - It's staying power and what the story does for the time. If the themes from s story that was written 200 years ago are as relevant now as they were back then, you definitely have a classic.

10. Relating to newer books, what attributes does a book need to have in order to be worthy of the title “classic”?

     - Reality. If you can take words on a page and apply them to your day to day life, if you can understand the characters and see the human side to them the mirrors the world, then that story will be a classic for ages to come.
