The Fantastic and Felicitous Fictional Character Blog Tag
Sometimes when I get bored I go through the post archives or follow the labels of other bloggers, looking for inspiration or just fun reading material. I was on Olivia's blog (following the Lord of the Rings label) and I came across this tag that she had tagged me for back in June of 2019. I had no idea!
Thank you Olivia!

Goody-two-shoes: A character who was just so morally good
This sweetheart. This angel. This darling who never compromised, faltered or surrendered. Padme was made to carry the weight of the galaxy, when it wasn't her role to do so. Yet, she bore it with grace, dignity and beauty. Padme's moral goodness not only saved lives, but it impacted generations as well. While Padme may be the definition of a goody-two-shoes, she struggled with her conscience and her heart. She wants to do what is best for other while putting her own needs and emotions on the back burner. There's a understanding and relatable quality to Padme that makes her more of a model of good moral standing and not just a stereotype good girl.
Heartbreaker: A character who made you cry
Ron Weasley (Harry Potter)
Ron doesn't make me cry because he's a bad character. He makes me cry because he's an excellent character that was done wrong in the film franchise. Book-verse Ron Weasley is incredibly knowledgeable, forthright, and independent. In the movies, they dumbed down his character, giving all his best parts to Hermione and basically just creating him to be Harry Potter's shadow. As the middle child in a big family, I totally understand Ron's frustration in trying to find himself among his array of siblings. The one part in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows that made me weep is when Ron is faced with a horcrux that tempts him to doubt himself and turn his back on his friends. However, ever stoic and loyal, Ron destroys the horcrux and with it, his own fears about who he is and who he can become.
Oh Benedick! The definitive parrot! One of Shakespeare's most loved characters made his mark as the loud, over opinionated and sometimes clueless nobleman. Benedick is never at a loss for words for any reason whatsoever. Whether spouting his negative ideas on marriage, sparring with Beatrice or daring to challenge his own friends. The best part about Benedick is that everything he says is usually worth hearing. Beyond the bluster, the sarcasm and the negativity, Benedick has deep wisdom and gives sound advice when it's needed the most
I couldn't decide which monologue I loved most, so I posted both.
Michael Rosenbaum's embodiment of the iconic villain Lex Luthor, the primary arch enemy of Superman, was nothing short of perfection. As compared to Gene Hackman's idiot characterization or Jesse Eisenberg's annoyingly autistic spectrum portrayal, Michael Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor was standards. The most difficult aspect in Smallville's Lex Luthor is trying not to fall in love with him. In the beginning he was a spoiled rich kid with no guidance. Overtime, he endears himself to many people and proves that he can be a good and moral person. However, as a Luthor, Lex's desire for power slowly begins to overcome him. Soon he becomes consumed by hatred and revenge against Clark Kent, his once closest friend, now turned greatest adversary.
Love interest: A character who, if alive in reality, you would want to marry
This one was a no brainier. I've been wanting to marry Obi-Wan Kenobi since I was 9 years old. The handsome and opinionated Jedi Knight infiltrated my young life with his wit, sarcasm and a shining lightsaber. Truth be told, the normalcy of Obi-Wan is what makes me love him so much, as both a character and love interest. His remarkable kindness to people has always appealed to me as well as doing what is right, even when he's not sure of the outcome. Would Obi-Wan make a good husband? He can be cranky, over ambitious and a risktaker. However, his humanity and understanding of others can never be underappreciated or forgotten.
Sidekick: A character who was always loyal no matter what
Dwight Enys (Poldark)
Dr. Dwight Enys, former military medic turned public physician and also the moral compass for every living soul in Cornwall. Dwight's position as the best friend to Ross Poldark as well as his practical sidekick makes him loved by many. No matter how insane Ross' plans might be or whatever trouble he gets himself into, Dwight is always by his side. Seeing as Dwight and Ross are on the same social scale, Dwight has the luxury of being able to voice his opposition to Ross without fear of repercussions. Usually Ross listens, but in times that he doesn't he soon regrets not heeding his friend's advice.
Complicated: A character you love and hate
Loki (MARVEL)
I've had a love/hate relationship with Loki for years. His tragic story as the overlooked son and unworthy prince has made him legions of loyal fans. However, Loki's problems were oftentimes of his own making. He was not loved less than his brother. Odin saved his life, gave him his name, made him a prince and gave him all the advantages to be whomever he chose to be. Yet, Loki's deep seeded jealousy toward Thor maligned his judgement. His inability to see good amid the bad began to blind him from what was true. In the end, Loki has no one no blame but himself for his loneliness, anger and fear.
Oddity: A character who was strange, but you loved them that way
Magizoologist, New Scamander, has oddity down to an art form. Painfully shy and unable to really relate to people, Newt doesn't waste time caring about people's opinions of him. He's more concerned about documenting and saving creatures that have been misjudged by the Wizarding World. In contrast to Harry Potter who is outgoing, demanding with a typical type a personality, Newt's awkwardness in social situations and oftentimes fear of of the public makes it hard to see him as a hero. Yet, by understanding creatures, Newt slowly begins to understand people. That people can also be abused, misunderstood and neglected.
Queen/King: A female/male character who you admire and aspire to emulate
If more people could aspire to be as decent in their work and private life as Sergeant Jamie Reagan, then society may be better off. Jamie has a moral conscience that he embodies entirely. His work as a cop has him seeing the absolute worse in people, however, instead of despairing about the horrors of the world, Jamie will actually get up and do something. He understands people, especially when they are seen as different or outsiders. He refuses to have anyone dictate to him where his morality lies, whether it's defying orders or making himself an enemy to his own precinct. Jamie stands by his convictions even if it means he's standing alone.
Savior: A character who oddly reminds you of Christ
In most stories, there is usually a savior character. Aslan, Gandalf, Katniss Everdeen, Anakin Skywalker, Harry Potter and so on. Jon Snow, the bastard son of Eddard Stark is an unlikely savior character at least at first. Growing up in his father's home where he is seen as an unnecessary burden to his step-mother, Jon has lived a life as an outsider. That knowing and understanding allows Jon to see beyond the exterior of others and reach out to those that are also lonely and unwanted. Jon will make the hard unpopular decisions that others refuse to make. He is willing to sacrifice his good name and social standing and even his life for the safety of others.
Yeah, that's my bad. *raises hand* I'm terrible at actually letting people know that I've nominated them. :-P
I'm glad you found the tag and filled it out anyway! I enjoyed reading your answers, especially your note on Padme. She is my favorite and I love hearing other people appreciate her. <3 As you so beautifully put it: "Padme was made to carry the weight of the galaxy, when it wasn't her role to do so."
I read the answers of other people who were doing the tag and most people chose Captain America for Goody Two Shoes, so I wanted someone different. Someone who is usually overlooked in a franchise and Padme seemed perfect.
Yes Obi Wan! He'd be a good one to marry. Love Loki, he's such a fiend. XD Jon Snow surprisingly fits that category, I've only seen season 1 so far but it works.
This tag is one of favorites! Thanks for tagging me! I did it HERE, but I just think that it's so awesome that I might fill it out again.
Your answers are all PERFECT! Love Padme and Ron (though he wasn't done the best that he could've been in the movies!).
No one fits that question as well as Benedick! He is my absolute favorite part of that movie, and those two monologues especially! When he says, "Monsieur Love" I die of laughter. I've been looking for gifs of him for ages and you have great ones. The part with the chair! Love it!
Obi-Wan and Dwight are both amazing. <3 Obi-Wan is totally someone I would marry.
There are definitely conflicting emotions for Loki. He is hilarious and I feel really bad for him, but he also took over the mind of my favorite Avenger, Hawkeye, which is not cool. Makes me very upset.
And then Newt is precious. Again, wonderful answers!
Emily did an excellent job with this tag! And I'm glad you want to do it again.
Ron is such a wonderful character and the movies did him such an injustice.
I loved Benedick too! The whole garden scene from the beginning with his 1st monologue to the end with the epic montage between him and Beatrice (her on the swing and him dancing in the fountain) was incredible. I can watch the chair gif over and over again!
As much as I love Dwight, I despise Caroline! I may write a post on this, but everything about her is just so grating.
I don't think it's Loki I have a problem with, it's the fans that are constantly defending his behavior and blaming Odin for his problems.
Thanks so much for nominating us!! I am so excited!! I loved reading your answers. Dwight Enys is a very long-suffering friends!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I figured this would be the type of tag you would enjoy.
DeleteDwight is such a saint! He was made to take on more than he should.
Yeah, that's my bad. *raises hand* I'm terrible at actually letting people know that I've nominated them. :-P

Obi-Wan is 1st in my list of top 5 good fictional husbands (Faramir, Remus Lupin, Bilbo Baggins and Edmund Pevensie as the other 4 contenders).
DeleteIt's taken me a while to get use to Loki, but he definitely won me over in Thor: Ragnorak. He was hysterical!
You got a long way to go then! The first couple of seasons are rough, but by the time season 3 rolls around that's when the story gets really good.
