Edward Nygma - Gotham's Darkest Riddle

When I'm not rooting for Det. Jim Gordan, I'm usually swooning over
 this sad future villain.

I'm halfway through season 3 of Gotham and as someone who normally doesn't go for the bad guys, much less the slowly descending, physco-murder types, Gotham City's former GCPD coroner, Edward "Ed" Nygma is AMAZING!

  • In the beginning of the show he's a brilliant, sweet-natured guy with a love of riddles, but his social awkwardness (due to to his incredible intelligence) oftentimes leads people to underestimate him, find him annoying and bully him around.
  • You really begin to feel for him because he just wants to be excepted, but his painful shyness gets in the way of really allowing people to know who he is.
  • He communicates through riddles and games and wants to find someone who can actually keep up with his intellect. In many ways, similar to Sherlock Holmes (just without the narcissism and the arrogance).

  • As time goes by he begins to descend into madness and murder. However, it's a slow process and the show really takes its time portraying the downfall of a good man, who is trying desperately to remain good.
  • Every time he finds some modicum of happiness, it's taken away and it only deepens his madness and natural state of revenge, which will eventually become his making of the Riddler.
  • It's hard to hate him because you see his inward struggle to do the right thing, be the better person, but his dark nature becomes more and more dominant.

And God is he not serving up lewks in season 3!

Thank you for your comments : )

I love getting comments, long or short, whether you agree with me or not. .

Just be kind. I don't tolerate any rudeness at all. So just be careful with what you write and how you write it.
