Guardians of the Galaxy

If Star Trek had a baby with the Marvel franchise then this quirky film would be their child. Guardians of the Galaxy was another Marvel product that I had no concept of until it premiered in 2014. To be honest I didn't particularly care for it, but upon re-watching it for reviewing purposes, it does have a whimsy and charm to it that other Marvel franchises tend to lack. It's gritty, but not serious. It's geared toward teenagers, but adults can find the humor just as easily. It's certainly not my favorite of the Marvel productions, but it does have a place for your super geeky, space loving fans.

Chaos is the operative word in this storyline. Complete and total chaos. However, a little chaos can prove to be a good thing as well. A group of misfits, with no homes, no families, nothing of any real value to hold on to, run into one another, then complete chaos either ensues or is following close behind. While at first glance these outcasts may seem completely inept to save the day, their lying, stealing, killing, fighting and manipulation skills all add up to a rather successful crew.

The Guardians are headed by Peter Quill or Star-Lord. Peter was abducted from Earth as a child and reared in the galaxy by a space pirate, Yondu and his crew The Ravagers.

Gamora is a beautiful, but fierce assassin who was raised by the Titanian criminal, Thanos, alongside her jealous bionic sister, Nebula. For years Nebulas has killed at the command of her father and his associate Ronan.

Rocket is a genetically engineered racoon who is brilliant and crafty, managing more than 20 prison escapes. Seeming to have more brains than most humans, Rocket is an unexpected voice of reason.

Groot is a tree like alien and Rocket's partner who can only say I am Groot, but is undeniably sweet as well as extremely powerful.

Drax is a prison inmate who is bent on revenge against those that killed his wife and daughter. Although he gives the appearance of being tough and scary, Drax has a soft spot for people he considers his friends.

At times I tend to forget that this is part of the Marvel franchise. The characters themselves are genuinely unique and fun and it's actually quite hard to have a favorite! Anyone who has seen Infinity War and Endgame knows how extremely important the Guardians crew is to the storyline and this movie is the first time that the power of the Infinity Stones are brought up. And while it may not be my favorite storyline, the Guardians are probably the one Marvel crew that I wouldn't mind joining.

  1. Great review! I love this movie. It isn't my favorite, but I still really like it. Joining the Guardians would certainly be a lot of fun.

Thank you for your comments : )

I love getting comments, long or short, whether you agree with me or not. .

Just be kind. I don't tolerate any rudeness at all. So just be careful with what you write and how you write it.
