May Prompt

A scene with a pearl necklace in book or film

Julie & Julia (2009)

Oddly enough I found this one a little difficult. With all my love of period dramas surely I would be able to find a good story where pearls made an appearance. However, this delightful film from 2009 which chronicles the beginnings of the American Chef, Julia Child's career in post WWII Paris and how she inspires an up and coming blogger Julie Powell through cooking just seemed to fit. Half of the story takes place in the 1950s so that can kind of count as a period drama??

So how do pearls come into the mix? In 2002 Julie Powell challenges herself to cook through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in a year. During her time of cooking and writing, Julie immerses herself into the life of Julia Child, right down to the pearls she wore, even while she was cooking (a fact she brings up to her husband, Eric). On Julie's 30th birthday and at her Julia Child themed party, Eric gifts her with a real set of pearls.

Both women were very fortunate to have husbands that supported their cooking endeavors. Julia's husband, Paul was his wife's #1 fan and never let her give up on her dream. Eric was truly the same as he went along Julie's crazy culinary adventure with her. By giving Julie a set of pearls like Julia's Eric was reminding his wife that he is also under the influence of Julia. The pearls not only connect Julie with her cooking icon, but speak volumes of unconditional love and support of not one, but two wonderful husbands.

Just be kind. I don't tolerate any rudeness at all. So just be careful with what you write and how you write it.
