The World is Watching (SPOILERS)

I just finished episode 4 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and while it tended to drag in some areas, it was exceptional in others. Especially with Bucky

In a nutshell (and without giving too much away), The World is Watching begins 6 years before, just prior to Infinity War. Bucky has been in Wakanda for the last two years, finally safe and recovering from the abuse of HYDRA. Bucky's final test is having to resist the series of words that are used to strip him of his humanity and cause him to go into full Winter Solider mode. Killing without remorse. Unable to stop until the job is complete. Ayo, a Dora Milaje guard, speaks these words and Bucky, although clearly struggling, resists and holds on to his humanity.

After decades of pain and suffering, Bucky is freed from the mental and phycological abuse that has controlled him for over 70 years. And when he realizes this, he finally breaks down and cries. Maybe tears of shame and guilt, but also possibly tears of joy and freedom, and eventual redemption.

Can we just talk about what a fucking a m a z i n g actor Sebastian Stan is??? He was just so heartbreaking in this scene and he nailed every single emotion!!

Other thoughts on the show so far...
  • They need to stop doing Sharon Carter so dirty. This woman has lost everything! If Bucky can be pardoned than so can she!
  • Sam continues to be his usual wonderful self. Always helping, guiding and counseling others. It's understandable why Steve gave him the Shield. Sam understands the human heart and mind. He doesn't look down on those that are broken and lost. It's in his nature to help and care for others, while fighting the wrongs in the world. Shield or no shield, Sam has always been Captain America.
  • I'm really beginning to feel for Karli. Sam is right. She's a kid whose heart is in the right place and no one will listen to her. She's not a villain.
  • Why is everyone stanning Zemo?? That little cretin tore the Avengers apart! There's nothing good or moral or decent about him at all!
  • Where is Joaquin Torres?? He was here for a while and then disappeared! That guy is so cute and just exudes life and energy that harkens back to the old school Avengers. He's also an excellent soldier and a good apprentice for Sam. Bring this man back!
  • Seeing where Sam came from really informed the character. And as Anthony Mackie is from Louisiana (New Orleans), the writers obviously incorporated the same background for Sam.
  • Sam's sister Sarah is excellent. Very grounded, strong and generous. She loves her brother and wants the absolute best for him.
  • I want to like John Walker, but he's a total enigma. As John Walker he seems to be a great guy, but he's not Captain America. He's playing Captain America. It's obvious the guy has some hidden PTSD and there's a great deal of secrets that can't be let out.
  • The Dora Milaje returning was fantastic and maybe even relieving for Bucky.
  • I'm really expecting and wanting Rhodey to come back and clean up the mess that government has made.
Two episodes left!!!!!

  1. This series to me is better then WandaVision. I think they have taken two interesting characters and given them a boost! Love that they gave Sam a sister and family! Always liked Sam probably more then Bucky. Ugh, for some reason John Walker frays my nerves. At first, I had hope that he could be a stand up guy, but yeah, there is definitely more there. Yes, the Dora Milaje made a great entrance and kicked some booty along the way. ;) Personally I'm on the fence about Karli. Kinda hoping she teams up with Sam and Bucky some how.

    1. It's hard to compare the two series, because they're so different. WandaVision was all sci-fi, while Falcon and Winter Soldier is action. Yet there are similar elements such as recovery from grief and trauma. Both are great.

I love both Sam and Bucky! Bucky was the reason I became invested in the MCA. Then Sam came along and I was immediately taken with him. He's so entirely his own person.

I was hoping Okeye would show up too, but Ayo was fantastic. And anyways she was the first Dora Milaje we met.

    2. That's true! I think part of my dislike for WandaVistion is that I never really liked the two together. I totally get where Wanda is coming from and the grief she is going thorugh. But the end got a little weird for my taste.

That is neat that Bucky got you into MCU! My sister is a big fan of Bucky and his development. He has come a long way! Love that we got to see his freedom from Hyrdra's manipulation and what his break down. This last episode was so good!

      Yeah, me too!

  2. I loved this episode! I'm glad they decided to show that moment for Bucky. I'm also wondering why everyone suddenly likes Zemo it's so weird.

    1. I had been thinking on it after episode 3 that with everything Bucky has been through and all that he's made to withhold, he just needs to let go and break down. So you can imagine my surprise when that's exactly what episode 4 delivered!

I hate Zemo more and more! The only reason he's getting fan love is because the actor is attractive. That's it.

Just be kind. I don't tolerate any rudeness at all. So just be careful with what you write and how you write it.
