It's the last day of April and I'm home from work, sick from allergies and behold April's Inklings appears! As soon as I read the prompt, I had to get onto it immediately before April ends!

A scene with roses in a book or film

A Little Princess (1995)

One of the most beloved movies of my generation that never fades in beauty and storytelling. A Little Princess has been one of my all-time favorite movies for years and I watched it frequently with my brothers and sisters growing up. While there are many scenes in the film that carry a great deal of poignancy the most memorable (in my mind) is when Sara, who now lives as a starving servant and has succumb to severe grief and depression by the loss of her father, gives her hot bun away to a young homeless girl. 

This child is out on the streets with her mother and two siblings selling flowers. She and her family are hungry and freezing with probably no home to go to. Sara's unexpected generosity is rewarded with a beautiful yellow rose, and she is even declared 'a princess' by the grateful mother.

The roses' journey is not over, and Sara performs one more act of kindness when she leaves the rose at their neighbor's door; an elderly gentleman who is grieving the loss of his only son. Sara doesn't realize it, but her two acts of kindness and mercy will not only wake her of her depression and loneliness but ultimately save her life as well.
