Season Two has the audience returning to the London season for more romance, scandal and adventure in the lives of the Bridgerton family and the residents of the ton. This time the head of the Bridgerton family, Anthony, takes center stage as he fulfills his role as the Viscount. In order to do so Anthony believes he must find himself the most perfect woman to be his match. Meanwhile, Lady Whistledown continues with her gossip and intrigue, much to the dismay of Queen Charlotte, while both the Bridgerton and Featherington families course through their own private and public controversies.
The Bridgerton Family (minus Colin)
The Bridgerton siblings remained ever steadfast and loyal throughout the
treacherous waters of London society, the demands of Queen Charlotte
and the never-ending gossip of the mysterious Lady Whisteldown. Feminist
Eloise almost chokes at her presentation to the queen, Benedict pursues
his dream of art, Daphne has grown into a confident wife and mother,
Colin is still trying to find purpose for his life, but at a somewhat
slower pace. And Violet Bridgerton continues to guide and council her
children as she knew her husband would have wanted. However, the
Bridgertons are not immune to scandal and they certainly get their fair share from not one, but two members.
Lord Anthony Bridgerton and Miss Kathani "Kate" Sharma
After the sudden death of his father, 19 year old Anthony Bridgerton found himself the head of his family. For years, Anthony shunned his duty, doing only the bare minimum to get by and earning himself the reputation as a rake. Life was the gentleman's club and bedding his beautiful mistress. However, following his sisters marriage to the Duke of Hastings, Anthony begins to take life seriously. Mapping out and micromanaging everything and everybody. As the London season approaches and the Bridgertons return to the ton, Anthony hopes to find the most perfect and well bred woman to make viscountess Bridgerton and create his future heirs.
Miss Kathani "Kate" Sharma is considered an old maid at the age of six and twenty. Ever since the death of her own father, Kate has devoted her life into the care and bringing up of her younger half-sister Edwina, whom she hopes will be a success at the London season. The Sharma family are practically destitute and Kate sees Edwina as their only hope for securing a prosperous match. Just not to Anthony Bridgerton, who Kate sees as rude and arrogant and completely unfitting for her younger sister to associate with.
Anthony and Kate's paths cross when Edwina finds herself in love with the handsome viscount. Yet, Anthony finds himself forever overwhelmed by Kate's very presence. She is the only woman who is not afraid to challenge Anthony and never back down from him. This drives him to either madness or falling in love. Kate fights her feelings to protect her sister and ensure her future happiness. Yet, secrets can be kept for so long and when they are revealed, the damages can be irreparable.
Kate Sharma was the real jewel of this season though! I loved everything about her character, her sacrifices and putting herself second or even last if it meant the happiness of her loved ones. Her scenes with Lady Danbury were excellent and Kate really became a heroine with her sense of duty, loyalty and unwavering love.
This season was much more enjoyable than the prior one, primarily because there was only 1 sex scene and also I just loved the character development in Anthony, Daphne and Eloise. And of course, Kate Sharma who brought so much courage and dignity to her character, that I really think that she was the best part of the whole season.
I love Anthony and Kate (they are hilarious fighting together), but I still think I prefer season 1. The pacing wasn't as good here and I don't think the premarital sex scene fit with Kate. It felt like she "gave in" or he "conquered her." I think that spoiled the story a bit. And then everything dragged after that, it was rather anti-climactic.
ReplyDeleteI've yet to see Queen Charlotte, I wasn't really interested (1) I think they should have had a more clearly fictional queen and 2) I wasn't super interested in the older people's stories (skipped a lot of Queen Charlotte and Lady Featherington's scenes) 3) I was bummed about waiting for the couple they've been hinting at. But then I saw the preview and was more interested.
I CANNOT wait for Penelope and Colin!
I felt that Anthony and Kate's relationship was a little too slow burning at times. I was also annoyed that Kate seemed to shoulder most of the blame for this non-exitent affair. She tried to do the right thing and was still punished while suffer very little if anything at all.
DeleteQueen Charlotte was wonderful! I absolutely loved it! It's only 6 episodes but is totally worth the watch.
