Blue Bloods (CBS)

     This show! This show is amazing! I had known about it for a long time and my best friend had even recommended it to me, but my family and I never got around to watching it. We finally did shortly before the quarantine in Virginia was put into motion and since then, the Reagans have been our salvation during this hectic spring and summer.

    Blue Bloods is the story of a multi generational family of public servants. Headed by Police Commissioner Frank Reagan and his father and former commissioner Henry, the Reagans navigate their way through the crime and politics of New York City with their family, their faith and their fight for justice; sometimes with little to no gratitude or understanding from the people they serve.

 Francis "Frank" Reagan//NYPD Police Commissioner 

     The strong willed patriarch who is unmovable is his faith and beliefs. After losing his son Joe in the line of duty, Frank makes the lives of all his children his first priority. Frank has a full plate dealing with politicians who despise him and the NYPD and his family who love and revere him. However both sides also come at odds with Frank's stoic conservatism.

• Tom Selleck, people! 
• Frank has a no-bullshit policy when dealing with people and I love it.
• He's grouchy in public, but a complete teddy bear with his family, especially his grandchildren.
• The show doesn't shy away from Frank's Catholic faith and values.
• Loves potatoes. Any kind of potatoes.
• The scenes with his father are always great.
• Can come off as too perfect, but will always own his flaws.
• Very much tries to give people the benefit of the doubt.
• If anyone has the right to say, I told you so, it's him. He never does.
• His chief staff at 1 Police Plaza are like a second family and he secretly adores them. 

Detective Daniel "Danny" Reagan

     Former Marine (who returned with PTSD) turned police detective, Danny has a reputation for his hard hitting tactics with perpetrators. Hot headed, stubborn and a born brawler, Danny doesn't take criticism easily from others. Despite his cold public exterior, Danny is willing to listen to both sides of every argument. When not solving murders with his partners, Danny is devoted (with what time he can get) to his wife, Linda and their two boys, Jack and Sean.

• Boy-band heartthrob, Donnie Wahlberg, has made Danny Reagan an absolute icon. 
• A total baddass. 
• When he cries, you better cry too.
• Despite his serious role, Danny also doubles as the comic relief.
• Some of his best episodes are when he's dealing with his military past
• He and his wife are the definition of adorable and couple goals.
• Danny adores his sons and is an excellent father.
• His tense relationship with Erin has made for some great story content. 
• Both of Danny's partners (Jackie Curatola and Maria Baez) are excellent and brought out the best in him.
• It's always satisfying when he hits someone.

Erin Reagan//Assistant District Attorney

     The 'lone female' and the only non-police officer in the family. As New York City's Assistant District Attorney, Erin can double as both ally and enemy. Like her father, Erin has an intense moral highground and like Danny, will always finish what she starts. Erin is also a single mom and has difficulty raising a liberal leaning daughter, Nicky, among her conservative family.

• She takes a while to get use to, but soon you find yourself rooting for her.
• Has an amazing fashion sense!
• Takes absolutely no shit from her daughter.
• Or from her brothers for that matter.
• Unashamedly bullies her younger brother around.
• Refuses to be talked down to by her family when she disagrees with them.
• Doesn't need a man to be successful.
• Treats everyone who works for/with her with absolute respect and dignity.
• Not afraid to make enemies with other women.
• Needs to stop walking to her car alone.

Officer Jameson "Jamie" Reagan

    The youngest of Frank's children, Jamie is a Harvard grad lawyer who surprised everyone when he left law to join the NYPD. Honest, honorable and handsome, Jamie has an understanding heart for people who suffer, especially those with special needs and mental problems. Although Jamie is the most sensitive of the Regans, he's also the biggest risk taker and has a mischievous streak too. When off the job, Jamie devotes his time to helping his family and never says no to anyone.

• Jamie is my baby! No you cannot have him!
• He's so perfect that you want to hate him, but you just can't.
• Is more like an older brother than an uncle to his niece and nephews.
• Hates being babied and bullied by his older siblings, but knows they mean well.
• Jamie has had a pretty bad track record with women. 
• When he smiles, your day gets better.
• Can be sensitive without appearing weak or pathetic.
• Is adorable with kids.
• Pretty good at throwing shade.
• His loyalty to his family is severely underappreciated by the actual family.

Reagan Family Values

    The rest of the Reagans consist of Henry Reagan, Frank's dad, who gives sound council to his son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As the former police commissioner, Henry understands Frank's role better than anyone, but the changing times makes it difficult for Henry to accept how his son handles the job. 

    Linda Reagan, Danny's beautiful wife with a no-nonsense attitude, shares the role as family matriarch with her sister-in-law, Erin (both Henry and and Frank are widowers). Linda is a devoted Catholic whose faith keeps her family together, even though her husband is cynical and at times non-believing.

     The grandchildren, Erin's daughter Nicky, and Linda and Danny's sons, Jack and Sean, have all grown up in the loving care and instruction of their parents and grandparents. Nicky, for all her good intentions, tends to be a left leaning liberal determined to question and disagree with her family, just for the sake of being different. Jack and Sean are an inseparable duo who worship their father, adore their mother and hold a great deal of maturity and strength that they have inherited from both parents.

     It's refreshing to see a show that is not centered around liberal, political correct drivel. However, the conservatism of the show is not overdone either. Blue Bloods is very fair across the board and every side is looked at and listened too. It's realistic too. Not every episode has a happy ending and not all family dinners are cohesive. For Frank Reagan, everyone has a voice and their opinions, whether you agree with them or not, should be heard.
