A Sinner's Prayer

While I was looking through my fanfic.com account, I came across this poem that was inspired by the song God Help The Outcasts from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" that was written by InAthena'sCabin. I had completely forgotten how beautifully she had rewritten the words of the song and gave it a more universal message, even through most of the song is the same as the original.

A Sinner's Prayer

(Inspired by God Help the Outcasts from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame")

I don't know if you can hear me,
But I know that you're there.
I don't know if you would listen
to a sinner's prayer.
Yes, I know I'm just an outcast, I shouldn't speak to you
Still I see your face and wonder
Do you see me as I do?

God, help us sinners
Hungry from birth
Show us the mercy
They don't find on earth
God, help all people
We look to you still
God, help us sinners
Or nobody will.

Some live for wealth
Some live for fame
Some live for glory to shine on their name
I ask for love I can possess
I ask for God and his angels to bless me

There's nothing I need
As much as this:
Please help me get through my past and find peace
Please help us people,
The poor and downtrod
God, help us sinners
The children of yours.

  1. Did you hear that Billy Graham Ministries has abandoned the Sinner's Prayer? It's true. They wanted a "fresh" slogan to appeal to nonbelievers. Here is what they decided on:

"Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins."

I personally don't like it: too Lutheran.

Thank you for your comments : )

I love getting comments, long or short, whether you agree with me or not. .

Just be kind. I don't tolerate any rudeness at all. So just be careful with what you write and how you write it.
